WWPW Washington DC

So to explain the “WWPW”, it is a World Wide Photo Walk that took place this year on August 13th. It is organized by KelbyOne, (aka Scott Kelby) every year to raise funds for the orphanage in Kenya. So far this year over $10,000 have been raised! People from around the world venture out in groups to take photos on this one day, we all share what we have captured, meet new folks and have a lot of fun in the process 🙂

This year I took the 6 hour drive to Washington DC to join a group of 40 photographers with the plan to shoot Washington DC at sunset. Of course I was not doing all that driving for just 3 hours of shooting so you will see some photos here from earlier in the afternoon as well as sunrise the following morning before I drove the 6 hours home.

World War II Memorial

The National World War II Memorial honors the 16 million people who served as part of the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, including more than 400,000 who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The memorial was completed and dedicated in 2004

Kilroy was here
When researching for my visit there was a mention of this hiding somewhere in the memorial… I found it.

Vietnam Memorial

Honoring the men and women who served in the controversial Vietnam War, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial chronologically lists the names of 58,318 Americans who gave their lives in service to their country.

Korean War Memorial

“Freedom Is Not Free” the Korean War Veterans Memorial, “Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.”

The memorial is eerie at night, and also beautiful.

Lincoln Memorial

I just wanted to be different 🙂 We all know what the statue looks like and I love his hands.
I call this the Ghosts of the Lincoln Memorial.
