CONEY ISLAND, the sights

Who has never heard of Coney Island??? Lived in NY all my life and I finally got to visit this famous beach/boardwalk last week when friends from AZ came for a visit…isn’t that the way you get to see local icons… when someone comes to visit from out of town.

It was warm with no rain but the wind was blowing from the south so kicking up a lot of sand from the beach.

The infamous Steeplechase. We parked at the western edge so entered the boardwalk by walking under this famous (former) ride. I am not one for heights BUT you’d have to be a little crazy to ride this one in it’s day.

The Thunderbolt. A crazy loopty loop roller coaster ride. I do like the colors haha

AND then there is Nathan’s hot dogs!!!! Yes they are good with sauerkraut and mustard but if you buy them on the boardwalk (vs. a few blocks away from the boardwalk) it will cost you $35 for 3 dogs, small fry and small onion rings. Guess you pay for the ambiance 🙂

I don’t know about you but when we were kids we couldn’t go swimming for an hour after we ate lunch. Never did understand that, supposed to prevent us from drowning????…that is what our mom’s told us! The life guards were on duty very early and this stand had 2 before 10 am.

Stay tuned…tomorrow the PEOPLE of Coney Island
