Everybody is talking about, blogging about and YouTubing about the mirrorless cameras so I decided to rent one for a week to see what all the hype is about. Well happy to say it is not hype, and sad to say it is not hype. Happy is obvious, really great features, and smaller lightweight bodies…the sad part is I am going to have to make a decision and it is not going to be an easy one. I’ve been shooting Canon for 7+ years now and as many of you photographers know, that means I have lens, peripherals and gadgets all aligned with Canon. The camera I rented is a Fujifilm XT3 with a 16-55 2.8 lens; after reading far too much that seemed to be the manufacturer that has nailed it. Besides the face tracking, auto focus stacking and bunch of other cool features the thing that impressed me the most was the quality of images at ridiculously high ISO. I have kringed in the past if I have to push an image to 400 ISO, yet with this fuji camera I shot at 3200 ISO and the results were amazing! Today was my first day outside shooting, and am pleased with a few images…only a few because there is a learning curve with a new camera and I have not yet mastered it 🙂 so the issues were caused by the 6″ behind the camera, not the camera. When I return the camera on Friday I think I may do one more rental of the Canon mirrorless… while I love the dials and “old camera” feel of the Fuji I do need to be cognizant of what it will actually cost me to switch manufacturers. More to come. A few images from today
