Shorebirds

Nickerson Beach is on the south shore of LI, not sure why but the birds really like this beach for nesting despite the fact that most other ocean beaches have secured nesting areas. There were so many American Oystercatcher chicks running around with their parents trying to keep them together. The Black Skimmer is a lifer for me, really cool looking bird with an uncommon bill.  The Common tern, which are very common on the beaches of Long Island,  but boy are they nasty!  I was actually hiding under my tripod at one point because they were dive bombing me…and I was 15 yards away from the roped off nesting area!
