Rejoining the world of blogging

I started this blog 7 years ago when I was unemployed and obviously had a lot of free time. Fortunately I did find a new job and as time went by I posted less frequently until I stopped altogether. I am now starting to think about retirement, 362 days away, but whos counting 🙂 and thought it would be fun to start up again. As you can tell from the title of this site, photography is what I love so that is what you will find here. I capture many different types of genres , but wildlife is my favorite…mostly birds.

This past Thursday I took a day off work and spent a few hours at Setauket Mill Pond aka Frank Melville Memorial Park. Last time I was there, about a month ago, there were quite a variety of ducks, this visit I only found swans. I normally do not put glass on them, let’s face it all they do is swim around and chase people, not my favorite water fowl…HOWEVER with spring in the air I enjoyed the show they put on. There were 2 males and 1 female, ( I think, honestly I can’t tell the difference).

Swans form monogamous bonds that last for many years, so I don’t really know what was going on here, but one male was very aggressive, what appeared to be a pair that were swimming together were repeatedly “attacked” by this male.

The Aggressor
The Aggressor going after the pair swimming together
I believe he was doing his version of Darth Vader
That is him in the middle, with the female trying to get away

After a lot of wing flapping and holding her underwater, I believe he had his way. He flew off to another area of the pond. But he wasn’t done, he flew towards me 3 times, he’d stop short of the shore, swim around and do it again. Like I said I was entertained for an hour or so.

  1. Thank you for that little outing in this time of quarantine! I’m watching birds online and birds in my balcony garden. Life, spring, is going on. Unstoppable! Stay safe.
