Lisbon Trams and Funiculars: A Photo Journey

I am not sure what the fascination is with the trams in Lisbon, I know that I took way too many photos of them, but I just couldn’t help myself.

I looked up what the difference is between a tram and a trolley car or streetcar…there is no difference other than the name; in the US they are referred to as trolleys or streetcars where in Europe they are called trams. Now there is a difference between a cable car and a tram; cable cars are pulled by an underground cable system.

Then what is a Funicular you ask? They are usually found on a mountain side or steep hill, they are cable driven and counterbalanced.

The infamous Tram 28.

Below are images of a funicular. I had to take a ride on one, just because 🙂 About 10 to 12 people can squish into one and the ride takes about 5 minutes, maybe less.
