…a little sharing

OK…it’s New Years and apparently that means we are supposed to make resolutions 🙂    I don’t usually make New Years Resolutions because I tend to do the opposite of what you are suppose to do  LOL   Anyway, still not feeling that great so that means either sleep, watch TV or read.  I’ve kinda worn all three of those out so I decided to surf…not randomly, I’ve been checking out blogs and sites that I “favorited” (used as a verb)  thru the year but rarely get back to actually read.

A few thoughts I want to share… and a few links:

Let’s start with this link.  I discovered Eva many months ago and was captivated by her “out of focus” images.  I’ve tried a few times and it is not nearly as easy as you would think to shoot something out of focus and make it look like something other than an out of focus shot!  Here is a 3 minute video featuring some of her images, but check out here site as well. http://www.evapolak.com

This is my attempt at coping her style:

…and a few thoughts to keep in mind for those of you that are photographers:

To keep those creative juices flowing try creating a personal project…not just “I’m going to shoot birds” kinda project…get specific, set an emotion or idea you would like to get across with your images.  Lay out a plan, set an end date and go for it.  You will be surprised at how much your eye can see when you are looking for something specific!  Since I’m in a sharing state of mind, my project for 2014 is to create a book for each of my kids where I combine stories from the past with images and quotes.  It will be their present next Christmas.  In case you are wondering why I would share this openly…only one of my kids reads my blog and I know the end result will still be a surprise for him  🙂  (that was dig to all my other kids) LOL

Experiment….try some new software, play with software you already have but don’t use all it’s features.  Shoot something you would normally not shoot…try using filters…go out at mid-day and find something interesting.

Always have a camera.  Well these days that is an easy one, I do not think I know anyone that does not have a camera in their phone.  I personally dislike camera phones…not sure why, maybe because I can’t control anything other than what I see in the viewfinder…but I have been forcing myself to use it and on occasion I do actually like what I’ve caught.  But for those of you that like to use your camera phone…keep it readily available for those fleeting moments when the rest of us are saying…”WOW, now is that not a picture”!!!

Unless you want to make money with your images…shoot what you like.  Process how you like. And enjoy what you do and create!

I don’t always get to read this but when I do I wonder why I don’t make the time more often… http://http://digital-photography-school.com

  1. Lovely! To intentionally shoot out of focus is really thinking outside the box:)

I have a story to share – one of the teachers gave me a cd of her pics after she had told me of all of the wildlife she’d shot recently. I got home and put the cd in my laptop and was horrified at 98% of the shots being horribly out of focus. After much debate I went back to work and complimented her on her beautiful shot of her granddaughter. Lol…maybe she intentionally took them that way:)
